DATABANK
The past years have brought significant challenges and cost increases to hospitals, including shutdown of elective procedures, supply chain disruptions, increased salary expense and increased contract labor expense. Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) can help its members by operating a near-real-time statewide financial data collection system to help make data driven decisions on policy and legislation matters.
In 2022, the THA Board of Directors approved to set this as a THA corporate goal.
THA contracted with the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) to utilize their data collection platform, DATABANK. The DATABANK program has been operated in Colorado for 37 years and is currently active in eleven states. Activity includes monthly submission of high-level hospital utilization and financial data. As a member of the THA DATABANK program, hospitals/systems will have access to reporting inside the DATABANK system which will include the opportunity to benchmark against peer groups in Tennessee and other participating states.
All data are collected and uploaded to the DATABANK platform via a standardized Excel template. The high-level data elements are:
| Utilization Data Specs | Income Statement Data Specs | Balance Sheet Data Specs |
| Beds | Charges | Cash on Hand |
| Discharges | Contractual Allowances | Accounts Receivable |
| Days | Charity Care/Bad Debt | Assets |
| Other inpatient and outpatient utilization metrics | Expenses | Liabilities |
The THA DATABANK manual provides definitions of all collected data fields.
Participation in the THA DATABANK program is voluntary and there are no costs to participate.
